Who's behind USFoodInJapan.com
Every time I come to Japan from the US, there's a moment where all I want is something familiar, and fast. Phone battery dying, exhausted, wanting something simple. It's happened more than once — enough times that I built a free tool for it: a way to map every nearby American fast food chain and konbini in one search, instead of checking Google Maps pin by pin.
It started as something just for me. Then I realized it might help other travelers too — and eventually, that it could be genuinely useful for people who live in Japan and are simply curious what's actually nearby. That's the whole reason USFoodInJapan.com exists: one free search, no signup, built by someone who kept running into the exact problem it solves.
A little about me
I go by 313toHND — a nod to the flight path between my hometown (313 area code) and Tokyo's Haneda Airport (HND). I'm a 37-year-old American who can't stay away from Japan. Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto are the three cities I keep coming back to. I'm also a huge Pokémon and anime fan, and honestly, I think Japan has the best train system in the world.
Beyond this site, I write 313toHND, a travel publication covering trips between the US and Japan — real trip notes, food finds, and practical stuff like this site, so your own trip runs a little smoother.
What this site is (and isn't)
USFoodInJapan.com is a free tool, not a company blog. There's no team, no office — just one person who travels to Japan often enough to have built the thing they kept wishing existed. It's free to use, doesn't require an account, and exists alongside the Substack as one project.
